Hi – my name is Delle and I yearn to create! According to Webster, yearn means to be filled with longing or desire. And that’s how I feel about creating, or making something that did not exist before. Creating makes me happy, and I’m afraid I spend too much time admiring my creations! lol But I just gotta say that my greatest creation is my family – you can read about them here.
A little bit about me: I was born in New Zealand and sailed the Pacific when I moved to Canada at age 5. I grew up on a little farm and learned to adore goats. I married the love of my life at age 20 and was blessed to be able to be a stay at home mom to our seven daughters. I also home-schooled the oldest six. I have recently added the title of mother-in-law and grandma to my list of names and have two wonderful son-in-laws and two adorable grandchildren.
A few of my favourite things are coconut, chocolate and cilantro (not necessarily together!). I love to play games with my family – Settlers is definitely a favourite. Watching my children in their various activities always brings me joy. And I do love to snuggle on the couch with my guy and watch chick flicks – I tend to fall asleep during other movies! Flowers make me happy, I am a Blue Jays fan and I love exclamation marks!!!
As for creating – pretty much anything can fall under that category! I’ve done crafts, decorating, upcycling, home building, renovations, events and a million other things over the years from wacky hairdos to class party food, even organizing and menu planning. Right now we have a backyard that is under renovation and once the snow melts . . . time to get creative! And let me get it out there that I don’t like to cook – I create meals because we need them to survive. And I post favourite family recipes because my girls call me up and ask for recipes so I tell them to find them on my blog! lol (I’m a little lazy) I am very much a do-it-yourselfer when it comes to crafting, and try to spend as little as possible – I think I get even more creative by trying to save money on my creative endeavors.
My hope is that some ideas you find on this blog will inspire you in your own creating to enrich your life and the lives of those around you.
This Mormon Message called “Create” by Dieter F. Uchtdorf is one of my favourites and is what inspired my blog title “Yearning to Create”.

PS – If you’re curious about my blogging journey, it started on Monday, September 20, 2010. It was a private little family blog on Blogger where I posted our photos and wrote about our lives. It seemed like a perfect way to let distant extended family read about us. I posted creative things I was doing too. But then I decided to make a separate blog for my crafts so I started a Yearning to Create account on Blogger too. I really enjoyed writing blog posts but wasn’t very consistent at it. My craft blog had a few followers and got to over a million and a half page views which I thought was pretty cool – people all over the world were reading what I wrote! Wow!!! I even signed up for advertising and got a cheque in the mail. But I kept hearing that if I wanted to be taken seriously, I needed to be self-hosting and own my own domain, so I was tossing those ideas around. Up until this time I was a SAHM but then my baby started grade 1 and I got a part-time job at the school library for that year. Suddenly I had zero time for blogging – keeping up with work and family took all my focus. But once that library contract ended, it looked like I would have time again so in August 2016 I began the switch from Blogger to WordPress. For a computer illiterate person such as myself, this was a lot of work. I sure appreciate all the bloggers out there who posted about how to do this, and for Pinterest for helping me find them! I transferred my old posts to my new website, which is why a bunch of them have older publishing dates. But then, I was asked to be a permanent EA sub for the Preschool in town since one of the EA’s had cancer and they wanted a steady sub for the children’s sake. So that took most of my time away from blogging again that school year. And that brings us to the current school year 2017/18. The library position opened again at the school and I applied for the job and was interviewed. But I didn’t get the job. I was a little sad but in a way, very relieved because now I would have time to blog, which is what I really wanted to work on. I am still a sub for the library and preschool as needed. Also during this time, we sold our house and bought a fixer-upper and worked solid on that from July-December, so there certainly was no blogging time then, especially since we were living in our camper and didn’t have internet for part of that time. Kinda need internet to blog! We were just getting a little bit settled the week before Christmas, and then we had a daughter getting married in February. So yeah, just taking care of my family and home took all my time. I may not have been actually blogging, but during this time I sure took lots of pictures of what we were doing for future blog posts! Between subbing and working on our still unfinished house and yard, and following daughters to their events, I have been plugging away at getting my website in order and I’m almost ready to get posting again (end of May 2018). Let the journey continue!!!
